A Lexington man was hospitalized after escaping a fire at a home on a rural road in Fayette County on Wednesday morning.
The fire began about 7 a.m. in a log home at 8150 Elk Lick Falls Road, Lexington fire Battalion Chief Harold Hoskins said.
According to property records, the home is owned by Paul and Carol Simms. Paul Simms was discharged from University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital Wednesday afternoon.
The fire began in the basement of the house and crept up the walls to the second story, Hoskins said.

To get to the secluded home on Elk Lick Falls, which runs alongside Interstate 75 near the Madison County line, firefighters had to travel down about a 3/4-mile driveway into a wooded area.
Investigators had not determined a cause for the fire Wednesday afternoon.
