A boil-water advisory was issued Wednesday morning for Richmond and the northern part of Madison County because of a water main break, utilities officials said.
Customers of Madison County Utilities, Kirksville Water Association and Richmond Utilities should boil water until further notice, office manager Janet York of Madison County Utilities said.
School officials said that nine Madison County Schools — Clark-Moores Middle, Madison Middle, Madison Central High, Daniel Boone Elementary, Glenn Marshall Elementary, Caudill Middle, White Hall Elementary, Kit Carson Elementary and Bellevue Learning Center — were affected by the advisory.
The schools did not have any water, so Madison County Schools maintenance department was trucking usable water to each of those schools from other area schools, according to a news release from the school district. Drinking water also was being distributed to those schools.
