A new chief of the Fayette County Health Department primary care system has been named.
As executive director of primary care, William North will oversee 117 staff members that provided care to 17,452 patients in 2009, according to a health department announcement Monday.
He replaces Dr. Rice Leach, who retired in April after about five years with the health department.
"This is an exciting challenge for me to join Lexington-Fayette County's healthcare community, particularly as the entire nation moves toward health care reform," North said in a written statement. "The health department's Primary Care Center provides valuable medical and dental services for thousands of people in this community, and I look forward to being part of expanding those services."
