Two people were taken to University of Kentucky Hospital after they were involved in a wreck at Newtown Pike and Olivia Lane on Wednesday, Lexington police said.
Around 1:30 p.m., Joseph R. Barnes, 26, of Lancaster, was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid when he tried to turn left onto Newtown Pike and pulled in front of a tractor-trailer.
Police said the driver of the truck, Harold A. Hornbeck, 55, of Bagdad, tried to brake and steer away from the car but couldn't avoid it. The car came to rest against an earthen embankment on the side of the road.
Hornbeck was not injured, but Barnes and passenger Ashley N. Janov, 25, of Lancaster, were taken to the hospital, the release said.

Neither Barnes nor Janov were wearing seatbelts, and police said drugs might have been a factor in the crash.
At 9 p.m., Janov was listed in serious condition, and Barnes was in good condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
