Edythe J. Hayes Middle School was on lockdown for about 10 minutes Monday afternoon after a report that an armed person might be on his way to the school.
The report turned out to be a false alarm, said Lisa Deffendall, spokeswoman for the Fayette County public schools.
A letter was sent home with students notifying families of the incident, which occurred just before 2 p.m.
