UK police seek unsuccessful robber who was kicked in the face

University of Kentucky police are looking for a suspect in an attempted armed robbery that occurred in a parking lot at Commonwealth Stadium on Wednesday night.

UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said officers received a call at 9:12 p.m. from the victim, a man, who said a man approached him in the Blue Lot, announced he had a weapon and demanded money and valuables.

But the victim was ready to fight back.

The victim told officers he didn't see a weapon and chose to kick the would-be robber in the face, and he fled without taking anything, Monroe said.

The man ran south across Alumni Drive toward Greg Page Apartments. Monroe said officers had not found him as of 11 p.m.

Monroe said the man is white, about 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, with brown shaggy hair, light facial hair and an injury to his face. The man was last seen wearing a long-sleeved black flannel sweatshirt and dark grey sweatpants.

This is the fourth armed robbery attempt on the UK campus in the past two weeks, and the victims in each instance were males. Two of the incidents happened early Tuesday, and another occurred last week.

But Monroe said police don't think events are related.

"This one is a white male, and the others were male blacks," Monroe said. "We don't believe these incidents are connected at all."

In addition to reminding students to call for the campus shuttle or a police escort after dark, Monroe said he will place extra officers on street patrol.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call UK police at 257-1616, or dial #ukpd from any cellular phone.
