A 24-year-old Lexington man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Thursday for assaulting a 5 1/2-week-old baby in November 2008 and for being a persistent felony offender.
Eric Sylvester Martin admitted to police that he shook Kalei Martin, causing her to suffer seizures, unconsciousness, a subdural hematoma and retinal hemorrhaging, on Nov. 17, 2008, according to court records.
Eric Martin pleaded guilty on Aug. 20 to second-degree assault and being a persistent felony offender.
Fayette Circuit Judge Ernesto Scorsone sentenced him to 10 years on the assault charge, which was enhanced to 20 years because of the persistent felon count.
