Nan Gorman, widow of Hazard Mayor Bill Gorman, who died Saturday, filed to run as a write-in candidate for the office, the Perry County clerk's office reported.
One other candidate is on the November ballot: Ken Bryant, a former city employee. Bryant couldn't be reached by phone Thursday.
The city commission is making plans to swear in Nan Gorman as interim mayor, at a specially called meeting Monday night, City Manager Carlos Combs said.
Bill Gorman Jr. said commissioners asked Nan, and she said she would accept the interim office. Nan Gorman couldn't be reached by phone Thursday.
"We wanted to continue dad's legacy," Bill Gorman Jr. said.
Bill Gorman's name will appear on the ballot, but votes for him won't be counted. The deadline to file with the county clerk's office is Oct. 22.
