The city of Manchester is rehiring six city workers who were fired by the mayor the day after she lost the Nov. 2 election.
Mayor-elect George Saylor said the current mayor, Carmen Webb Lewis, had called him with the news Wednesday night.
The six workers had filed a federal lawsuit alleging they were fired for political reasons. They sought to get their jobs back; an unspecified amount of damages to compensate them for lost wages and embarrassment; and $6 million from Lewis to punish her.
Saylor said an insurance company representing the city in the lawsuit had told city council members it would be better if the workers were rehired as soon as possible. The six can start work Monday, Saylor said.
