Paris residents are asked to reduce electricity use

Power company officials asked that Paris residents continue to use only essential lights and electrical items Tuesday while crews replaced a transformer that blew Monday.

Kevin Crump, utility director for Paris Combined Utilities, said power was restored to everyone Monday night after city dispatchers received hundreds of calls about outages. But some substations would continue carrying extra loads until the new transformer was in place.

The transformer was supposed to be operating by 6 p.m. Tuesday, but electrical crews were waiting for special wiring to be delivered from Richmond, electrical supervisor Steve Sexton said.

Sexton said the transformer should be in place by around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
