LOUISVILLE (AP) — A Louisville Metro Police officer has been shot and wounded.
WAVE-TV quotes Police Chief Robert White in reporting two plainclothes officers working a burglary detail on Tuesday night got a call about a man carrying a gun as he walked along a city street. White says the man opened fire when the officers pulled up in their unmarked car.
One officer, still in the police car, was struck once in the back. His partner returned fire, but didn't hit the suspect, who was arrested a short distance away. He had a 9 millimeter pistol.
The station reported the officer was out of surgery and in fair condition at University Hospital early Wednesday.
Police didn't immediately release the names of the officers or the suspect.
