Lexington teen indicted in murder case

An 18-year-old Lexington man has been indicted for murder in the October death of Perry James Shaw, 49.

A Fayette County grand jury returned the indictment against Travis Scott Hurd on Wednesday.

Shaw's body was found lying on the bank of a creek near Oxford Circle on Oct. 10, according to authorities.

Shaw, a resident of Messner's Home on Hill Rise Court, off Versailles Road, died of blunt force trauma to his head and neck, according to police and coroner's office records.

Witnesses told police that Hurd told them he hit Shaw multiple times during a dispute. Hurd also told detectives he had done so, according to court records.

Hurd was an acquaintance of Shaw, according to police.

Hurd, who was arrested the day after Shaw's body was found, is in the Fayette County Detention Center under a $750,000 full cash bond. He is to be arraigned in Fayette Circuit Court this month.
