ENERGY STAR RATING
Brookside Elementary School recently joined an elite group of only 28 schools in Kentucky to earn the Energy Star rating from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. During a 12-month period, Brookside bills were more than 30,500 less than the national utility cost average. The school's rating of 83 means that it is 83 percent more energy efficient than K-12 schools nationwide. Factors to be credited for the efficient energy usage include building design, energy efficient HVAC and lighting, and cooperation from staff and students who supported the group effort by turning off lights and setting thermostats to appropriate levels.
