J.D. Crowe Festival Poster Contest Winner

Lucas Hammond has been announced as winner of the Third Annual J.D. Crowe Festival poster design contest. Lucas, age 5, received $100 as well as complimentary weekend passes to the festival and on-stage recognition. Copies of the winning poster were also sold at the Labor Day festival at Ichthus Farm in Wilmore. View the winning entry online at www.crowefest.com.













The Providence School selected as

"Best Practice Site"

The Providence School was recently selected as a “Best Practice Site” by the Kentucky Department of Education for exemplary practices in public school district alternative education programs. Six Best Practice Sites were selected statewide based upon criteria in the categories of academic performance, learning environment and efficiency. Programs in Bath, Daviess and Jefferson counties were selected in one category each while Jessamine, Boyd and Calloway counties received recognition in all three categories. As part of this recognition, the school will receive $1,000 for instructional support and will be formally recognized at a future meeting of the Kentucky Board of Education.

  

Pooch Plunge

The Pooch Plunge offers an end-of-summer cool down treat for dogs at the Nicholasville-Jessamine County Aquatic Center. Well-behaved friendly dogs are invited for a swim in the public pool, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12. Advance registration, by Sept. 9, $5 per dog, or $10 on event day. Proceeds benefit Jessamine County YMCA Campaign for Kids. Register by calling Kelly at (859) 885-5013.
