Cobb's 31 years of service to
Government officials, friends and family gathered at the Jessamine County Courthouse for a reception celebrating Carolyn Cobb's life of community service with Community Action. After 31 years, Cobb is retiring to spend more time with her grandchildren and husband Eldon. Community Action provides services that link low-income families and individuals to available community resources. Cobb has vowed to stay active in the community. State Fair Basket Winner
Martina Eckler of Lancaster was the winner of the gift basket giveaway drawing from the Jessamine County State Fair. The basket contents, which was valued at over $700, included a Kentucky Wine & Vine Fest weekend package, a wine package from Chrisman Mill Vineyards, note cards and art prints from Camp Nelson, Bourbon Barrel Ale and a World Equestrian Games t-shirt from Alltech, a Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2009 signed football, a personalized CD from John Michael Montgomery, and JD Crowe Festival tickets. Manna Ministry has first anniversary
The Nicholasville United Methodist Church Manna Ministry has served over 2000 meals since the program began in September 2008. The ministry serves hot, nutritionally balanced meals to the community on the second and fourth Saturday of each month at 303 West Maple Street, Nicholasville. An anniversary celebration is planned for Saturday, Sept. 26. Additional volunteers are needed to cook, serve, set-up and clean. Contact Adele at email@example.com or (859) 421-8974.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Jessamine County is seeking volunteers for a mentoring program for children age 6 through 13 from primarily single parent families. Volunteers would spend time with a child 3 to 4 times a month. Contact Melinda Weathers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
