A popular Lawrenceburg drive-in restaurant was damaged by fire Friday after employees apparently forgot to turn off a deep fryer before leaving for the New Year's holiday.
The Fairgrounds Drive-In on West Broadway Street near U.S. Route 127 caught fire about 8:45 p.m., Anderson County emergency dispatcher Robert Brock said.
Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly. The fire got into the ceiling and many items inside were destroyed, but fire officials said the building can most likely be rebuilt, Brock said.
No injuries were reported.
