Lexington man's death ruled accidental

An autopsy has determined that a man whose body was found in a front yard Tuesday near Maryland Avenue and Jefferson Street died after falling on a broken liquor bottle.

The 44-year-old man shattered the bottle "under the force" of his weight, causing a cut on his neck that resulted in his death, according to a news release from the Fayette County coroner's office. The death has been ruled accidental.

The man lived in Lexington, but with no known permanent address, according to the news release. The man's identity was being held pending notification of his family.

Police said someone reported seeing a person on the ground in front of a house at 503 Maryland Avenue about 11:15 a.m.

The coroner's release said that because of the setting in which the victim was found, the death needed to be investigated as a homicide.
