Lexington's Islamic community is hosting an open house Jan. 17 for its new SHARE Center, which is open to the public.
Dr. Ihsan Bagby, president of the center and an associate professor of Islamic studies at the University of Kentucky, said the center, whose name is an acronym for Service for Human Advancement and Resource Enhancement, will have food and clothing banks, a computer room, and a re-entry program for ex-felons.
Bagby said the center, which is located at 572 Georgetown Street, will help the Islamic community fulfill its responsibility "to strive to create a righteous and just society."
The grand opening is scheduled for 2-5 p.m. on Martin Luther King Day.
