Denny Hamlin’s third-place finish on Sunday inched him closer to the top 10 in the series standings.
He is now 11th, one point behind 10th-place Ryan Newman after gaining nine positions since the Texas race in April.
“I can’t say enough for this whole team,” he said.
“We’re battling back. The pit crew is really stepping up these last few weeks and getting ourselves back in position.”
Hamlin pitted for adjustments to his No. 11 Toyota during a caution when most lead-lap cars stayed out, putting him on a different pit strategy. The change ultimately allowed him to remain on the track with Brad Keselowski and Dale Earnhardt Jr. when the rest of the field pitted under green late in the race.
