9/11 memorial events schedule

Events marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001:

University of Kentucky Army ROTC tribute. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 9. Lawn in front of Administration Drive and Main Building on campus. All-day vigil by UK Pershing Rifles cadets, reading of 9/11 victims' names and posting small U.S. flag for each life lost.

Frankfort fire and police ceremony. 10 a.m. Sept. 9. In front of Frankfort Public Safety Building (in case of rain, inside Second Street School gym). Steel beam from World Trade Center to be donated to Frankfort. Proclamation from Frankfort Mayor Gippy Graham. (502) 875-8523.

Meditation, Worship and Prayer Service. 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 11. First Presbyterian Church, Georgetown. Community members invited to come and go during those hours to pray. Musical and reading at beginning of each hour. Special worship service at 11 a.m. (502) 863-5955.

Run to Remember, 4.03-mile foot race. 8 a.m. Sept. 11. Coldstream Park, Newtown Pike and Aristides Blvd. $25; online registration ends Sept. 9; day-of registration begins 6:30 a.m. Benefits Kentucky Children's Hospital and Lexington Fallen Firefighters Memorial.

Fort Knox Sept. 11 monument unveiling and concert. Sept. 11. Fort Knox. 8:30 a.m.: statue incorporating piece of World Trade Center unveiled at Fire Station No. 1. 7 p.m.: concert with U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie and 113th Army Band at Eastman Amphitheater. Free.

9/11 Memorial Service and Concert. Sept. 11. Cheapside Park, Lexington. 1:30 p.m.: service featuring Lexington Public Safety Color Guard, bagpipe band, Everett McCorvey and emcee Jack Pattie. 2-5 p.m.: concert featuring Jordan English Band, Kentuckians Chorus and Catch 22. Free.

American Freedom 2011 memorial service. 2 p.m. Sept. 11. Waterfront Park, Louisville. Steel beam from World Trade Center to be used in monument. Appearances by Gov. Steve Beshear, Rep. John Yarmuth, Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer, others. Rifle team, bagpipe band, military fly-over. Free.
