Nintendo is Officially Remaking One of the Greatest Video Games of All Time

The June Nintendo Direct was full of announcements from Nintendo for 2026 and even a few for 2027, but the very last game that was shown was long-rumored, and it does indeed exist. It's also coming sooner than many may expect.

Announced during the Nintendo Direct livestream, a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is in development, and it is releasing later in 2026. The brief trailer shown showed the game's new art style, a first look at Young Link, and a general plot setup for new players.

The game seems to be ditching the art style of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom in favor of a more realistic graphic style, similar to older Zelda games.

The game was leaked to be in development earlier this year by NatetheHate, so it was not a complete surprise the game does exist.

Nintendo stated that there will be future information and gameplay for the title, but it seems Nintendo is keeping its lips sealed on the remake for now.

There was not a specific release revealed, other than 2026, but given the games and release dates shown at the Direct, it would be plausible that the Ocarina of Time remake will release in either November or December this year as Nintendo's big holiday game.

Ocarina of Time is often cited as one of the greatest and most influential video games ever made. It is also the highest-rated game of all time on Metacritic, with a metascore of 99.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is in development for Nintendo Switch 2 and will be released in 2026.
