The Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass Inc. reports that 682 gifts were donated to its Silver Bell Holiday Gift Drive campaign this holiday season. The gifts were given to long-term care residents in Central Kentucky.
The program, in its seventh year, is designed to bring extra cheer to residents who would otherwise receive no gifts during the holidays.
“We find that 60 percent of long-term care residents do not have a regular visitor, meaning many residents are forgotten during the holidays. Residents miss the tradition of being home with family and loved ones,” said Denise Kennedy, Bluegrass district ombudsman.
The goal of the agency is to improve the quality of care for residents of long-term care facilities. These include nursing homes, family care homes and personal care homes. The non-profit organization relies on donations, grants and special events for funding.
