Lexington gets state's first Smashburger

The first of six Kentucky Smashburger restaurants is open in Center Court, 535 South Upper Street.

The smashburger starts with a 1⁄3- or 1/2-pound ball of fresh certified Angus beef that's smashed, seared and seasoned on a flat grill.

Saul Good Restaurant & Pub has opened its second location, at 1808 Alysheba Way in Hamburg. It's in the former Ruby Tuesday spot at Man o' War Boulevard and Pink Pigeon Parkway. Homegrown ingredients

The Trustees' Office Dining Room at Shaker Village is offering seasonal menus and introducing "seed-to-table" dining.

The chefs are working with ingredients from Shaker Village's historic farm garden, including heirloom fruits and vegetables. As the growing season progress, the dining room will have garden lunches and suppers with wine pairings.

On Derby Day, May 1, a buffet will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $21. The menu includes marinated asparagus, cheese grits, sugar-cured country ham on rolls, Shaker lemon pie and chocolate chip-pecan pie.

■ Campbell's in Paris has closed after 44 years in business. Irene and Harry Campbell opened the restaurant at 519 Main Street in 1966. Their daughter Marilyn ran the restaurant for 30 years. Critchfield Meats now is making Irene Campbell's beaten biscuits.
