Lexington chef Brigitte Nguyen is on her way to becoming a national culinary celebrity.
Her first brush with fame came when she was runner-up in two national cooking contests — Sutter Home's Build a Better Burger competition and the Food Network's Ultimate Recipe Showdown — and then she won the $50,000 grand prize at the National Chicken Council's biennial cooking contest.
Nguyen now has her own show on the Cooking Channel (Insight channel 209).
From the Kitchens of ... takes a behind-the-scenes look into the kitchens of the largest food and appliance manufacturers in the country. The show premieres at 10 a.m. Sunday.
In the first episode, Nguyen visits Kenmore and discovers how the company tests its appliances. Then, she uses the appliances to make a salad, pasta, rack of lamb with chimichurri and an angel food cake.
Sleep tight, vines
Lovers Leap Winery is having its third annual Hibernation Celebration on Saturday.
Chef Katie Payne will prepare the menu, which includes butternut squash soup, fire-roasted chicken, kale, potato and parsnip mash, cabbage and apple slaw, and corn muffins. Roger Bondurant and the Gray Squirrels will entertain.
