Bourbon's in spotlight at Shaker Village event

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill will celebrate bourbon on Feb. 19.

"Kentucky's Finest: A Spirited Bourbon Event at Shaker Village" will feature bourbons from Kentucky's distilleries and include:

■ Bourbon 101, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with special guest Dave Scheurich, a former distiller who will lead a series of comparative tastings and explain how premium bourbons are made. Cost is $125.

■ Shake Vigorously: A Spirited Kentucky Dinner, 6:30 p.m. with Joy Perrine and Susan Reigler, authors of The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book. Master mixologist Perrine will prepare cocktails, and Reigler will talk about bourbon and food as a natural team. The four-course dinner will be bourbon-inspired. Cost is $85.

Guide to better eating

Beth Loiselle, dietitian at Good Foods Market & Café, presents a four-month program for healthier eating called Better Eating for Life. The series will offer basic nutrition information, recipes and tools to help you move toward a healthy eating style.
