Sharon Thompson: Johnathan's is roasting a pig every Sunday

Jonathan at Gratz Park, 120 West Second Street, is having a series of pig roasts on Sunday evenings throughout the summer.

The first one, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, will have a Cuban flavor, followed by Southern and Polynesian.

"I have an 80-pound Berkshire pig that was finished on an acorn diet," chef/owner Jonathan Lundy said.

Nick Ryan's Saloon, 157 Jefferson Street, is celebrating the grand opening of its sidewalk café Thursday. "Spend a Summer Night in the South of France" will benefit Surgery on Sunday, an organization that provides free outpatient surgical services to individuals and families who do not have health insurance and are not eligible for federal or state assistance. Farmers market report

■ Mary Tyler, who is known as "The Peach Lady," has fresh peaches from Georgia at the Lexington Farmers Market locations.

■ Shelley Johnson, owner of Shelley's Hand-Snapped Asparagus, is still picking asparagus. Purple Passion and Jersey Knight varieties should continue for another two weeks depending on weather conditions. The price is $5 a pound.
