Tidbits: New executive chef at Natasha's makes changes

Natasha's Bistro & Bar, 112 Esplanade, has hired Alex Jenkins as executive chef to develop and implement a new culinary philosophy.

Jenkins was classically trained at Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I., and Cork Regional Technical College in Cork City, Ireland.

"The changes currently being rolled out place a much increased emphasis on culinary appeal, timely delivery of food to the table, and a palette of new, authentic and robust flavors," owner Gene Williams said.

New menu offerings include fresh seafood, frequent specials, healthier meats and more tapas-style small plates. Fresh seafood will be served every weekend, and world cuisine specials will be featured Thursday nights.

Nick Ryan's Saloon, 157 Jefferson Street, will donate 20 percent of Monday's lunch and dinner proceeds to the Friends of The Kentucky Theatre campaign for to renovate the historic downtown movie house. A reception and art exhibit will be 4 to 6 p.m. The cost is $25, and 20 percent of art sales will be donated to the campaign to help cover the cost of new seats for the theater. Casanova Italian Restaurant, 855 South Broadway, in the old Coach House spot, will close Wednesday. "We are planning to move Casanova to another location," chef/owner Leo Capezzuto said. He is looking for a smaller spot with a patio. "Downtown will be our target, but other locations could be an alternative," he said. He will update the restaurant's status on Facebook and Casanova will offer its Beyond Grits: Lexington Restaurant Week specials through Wednesday.
