Buddha Lounge, a new sushi and Asian-style tapas restaurant, will open next month. Owner Nick Lagagsorn said the restaurant at 109 North Mill Street will channel big-city chic and have a fun atmosphere. He plans to offer lunch and dinner as well as happy hour, and late-night service.
Architect and designer Rebecca Burnworth is helping him turn the former office building into a restaurant and lounge, with a 30-foot bar, a lounge alcove, and a semi-open kitchen where patrons can watch the sushi be prepared and presented.
What are Asian tapas? "Like Korean tacos," Lagagsorn said. Pulled-pork sandwiches with Asian spiced barbecue sauce will be served on bánh mì bread.
■ West Sixth Brewing is releasing a new seasonal beer in cans: Heller Heaven Double IPA, which it has brewed since its first year, is one of the most requested to be canned, co-owner Ben Self said. But it's tough to make and it uses hard-to-find hops.
"This seemed like a natural time to make it work," he said. "It's a top-notch double IPA and available on tap in the tap room now." In June, you can get it in cans for $9.99 for a four-pack. The 9 percent ABV beer is named for local artist Sarah Heller, one of first tenants in West Sixth's Bread Box building.
