Cardinal Hill telethon exceeds goal

A gift of $194,000 from the family of a former Cardinal Hill Hospital patient helped the hospital exceed expectations and raise $527,900 during its annual telethon Sunday.

The hospital set a goal to raise about $350,000 because of the poor economy, said Jenny Wurzback, director of community relations.

"We were very, very shocked by that figure," she said.

Thoroughbred horse owner and socialite Marylou Whitney and her husband John Hendrickson donated $100,000 to the hospital and shared stories during the event, which aired on WKYT-Channel 27 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
