Swine flu confirmed in Madison and Oldham counties

Kentucky state health officials confirmed two more cases of swine flu Thursday, bringing the state's total to 12.

Both new patients are men. One is from Madison County, the other from Oldham County, officials said.

They are the first new cases reported since the weekend. Information on the patients' conditions was not immediately available.

The Kentucky Department for Public Health says the best strategies for avoiding the flu include regular hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes, and monitoring yourself for symptoms such as fever, chills, body aches and coughs. It's particularly important to look for signs of the flu if you've recently traveled to Mexico or elsewhere outside the country, officials say.
