UK pharmacy dean to be interim provost

The current dean of the University of Kentucky's College of Pharmacy will step in as interim provost, UK officials announced.

Dean Tim Tracy will start work May 7, serving in the role left by Provost Kumble Subbaswamy, who will become chancellor of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst this summer.

Tracy has been the pharmacy dean since 2010. Before that, he was the chairman of the pharmacy department at UK. He spent 11 years as faculty at West Virginia University. Tracy earned his doctorate in clinical pharmacy from Purdue University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacology at Indiana University.

UK President Eli Capilouto said he had asked Tracy to concentrate on upcoming budget cuts, undergraduate education, and the transition to a new budget system by next year.

Dr. Patrick McNamara will serve as acting dean of pharmacy. Capilouto is expected to announce a search committee for a new provost in the upcoming weeks.
