Woman who pleaded guilty to taking $27,361 from HealthFirst to be sentenced Friday

A worker in the pharmacy of HealthFirst Bluegrass is scheduled to be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to taking $27,361 from the public health organization.

Stephanie A. Richardson pleaded guilty last month to accepting pharmacy payments then issuing a refund for the payment which she then kept, court records state.

Richardson is to appear in Fayette County Circuit Court to be sentenced on one count of theft by unlawful taking more than $10,000. The maximum sentence is 10 years.

According to court records, Richardson, 36 of Lexington, took the money between June 2011 and June 2012. Court records state Richardson worked for the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

Dr. Rice Leach, Fayette County health commissioner, said Richardson was a temporary worker under contract to HealthFirst.

Executive Director William North said the money was stolen from HealthFirst and accounting procedures have been changed to prevent future crimes.
