Fash Food Home: Purchases help retailers raise awareness and money

Along with changing leaves and pumpkins, the color pink has become a common sight during October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In recent years, the rosy hue has come to symbolize Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the breast cancer awareness movement. Now you can find an amazing selection of products whose proceeds benefit the cause and, more often than not, have pink accents.

At Kohl's, merchandise by ELLE is $5 and $10 each, with 100 percent of the net profit donated to the fight against breast cancer. A ceramic travel mug, $5, features stylish graphics and a silicone top. It's the perfect container for keeping beverages warm at home, work or while strolling around a farmers market. Other items include candles, umbrellas and travel totes.

During the past 10 years, KitchenAid has supported breast cancer awareness with its Cook for the Cure items, which include its iconic stand mixer and other kitchen tools in shades of pink.

The company also offers the Pass the Plate program. Customers may purchase and register a special Villeroy & Boch plate, $24.95, with a design by PBS cooking show host Jacques Pépin.
