According to Promotion Marketing Association Coupon Council, spending 20 minutes a week couponing can save you as much as $1,000 a year.
The mission of this column has always been to help you save money, but I also want to help you live better. As the economy gets better, you will have strategies in place to live a frugal life even in better economic times.
You can start saving now:
Use coupons from Sunday’s newspaper. Buy a small accordion-style folder to categorize your coupons. Being organized will make your grocery-store experience more satisfying.
Use loyalty cards. Many stores have loyalty programs to help you save money on purchases. There are other ways to save at certain stores. For example, go to Kroger’s Web site and load digital coupons onto your Kroger Plus card. The coupons will automatically be redeemed at checkout.
You also can load coupons onto your loyalty cards at SavingStar.com. When you check out and swipe your card, nothing will be deducted from your bill, but your savings will be deposited into your PayPal account, or you can receive gift cards.
“Like” brands on Facebook. Giving away free samples or coupons on a product’s Facebook page is the way of the future. Check out your favorite product’s Facebook page to start saving.
The Herald Leader is now offering a $52 annual subscription for the Sunday newspaper for new subscribers only. Follow me now on Sundays, and I will show you how to save even more money.
