It’s time for some spring cleaning. And just like your closets, your finances need to lose the clutter.
Being organized makes it much easier to handle all of your money matters. Here are some steps to take:
Get organized. Gather all documents that need to be filed or shredded. Office Depot is offering a coupon for free shredding of up to 5 pounds of documents through May 1.
I strongly recommend spending a little bit on file folders, containers and labeling markers. Create a folder for each type of document, such as bank statements and medical bills. Once you have everything filed, it’s much easier to find when you need it.

De-clutter your electronics. Our electronic lives can easily get cluttered, too. Start getting organized by eliminating any online accounts you don’t use. Also, set up online bill paying to save money on postage.
Also check your emails and clear out old ones. It’s easy to unsubscribe from most business email lists. If you don’t read them, get rid of them.
Evaluate your insurance coverage. Bundling your auto and home insurance policies can save you money, so call your agent or bring your policy to another company to compare prices.
Check your rates. Do a yearly housekeeping call to all your major monthly billers such as cable, phone and Internet, and ask if you’re getting their lowest rates.
