Fru-Gal: A list of places where veterans can get special deals on Nov. 11

Nov. 11 is Veteran's Day, the day we celebrate and honor America's veterans.

Many restaurants and retail stores give veteran's freebies and discounts as a thank you for their service.

At you can find ways to help veterans. Until Nov. 19, sign up to Adopt a Hero. Simply choose a name from the Hero list on the website and either shop for items to drop off at Military Mission on 3650 Boston Road or donate $30 and they will shop for them.

Also, Military Mission will accept donations of any of those small bottles of shampoo or conditioner you have from any hotel visit or the samples you have received with suggestions from my column. Just drop them off at the Boston Road location.

A variety of other donations are needed as well. Here are some suggestions to help you start collecting items that can be donated to Military Mission.

For the following Veteran's Day deals, proof of military service is required and it's best to call ahead to verify that these deals are taking place in your local location. Many companies are franchises and they may have different policies.

■ Churchill Downs is offering free general admission tickets and discounted Millionaire Row tickets ($28, regularly $37) for all military personnel and veterans on Veteran's Day.

■ The National Corvette Museum, in celebration and recognition of those who have served, is offering free admission to all American military veterans, police, firefighters, plus their immediate accompanying family during November. Show proof of service at the admissions counter to receive complimentary admission. The Museum is located at I-65, exit 28 in Bowling Green, KY and is open daily, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

■ During November Brides Across America is partnering with bridal salons across the nation to giveaway wedding dresses to qualified military brides. All military brides must pre-register online at

■ Applebee's allows veterans to get a free meal on Nov. 11 from a limited Veterans Day menu that includes items like steak, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, and lots more.

■ Bob Evans has free, all-you-can-eat hotcakes for active duty military and veterans with ID or proof of service on Nov. 11.

■ Chili's is offering a free meal on Nov. 11 for all military veterans. It includes a choice of any lunch combo, or a dinner meal from a select menu, including any full-size flatbread. Dine-in only. Beverages and gratuity not included. Must show proof of military service.

■ City Barbeque has a free sandwich platter at participating locations for veterans on Nov. 11. Proof of service required.

■ Denny's lets veterans build their own Grand Slam for free on Nov. 11 from 5 a.m. to noon. Participating locations only.

■ Golden Corral offers a free meal from 5-9 p.m., on Nov. 11. The 15th annual Golden Corral Military Appreciation dinner will is available to any person who has ever served in the United States Military. For more information visit

■ Little Caesars Pizza is offering a free pizza or a $5 HOT-N-READY Lunch Combo to all US Armed Forces veterans and active military members between 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Nov. 11 with proof of military service Call ahead to verify participation.

■ LongHorn Steakhouse will service a complimentary Texas Tonion and non-alcoholic beverage on Nov. 11. Complimentary Texas Tonion and non-alcoholic beverage. Proof of service required.

■ At O'Charley's on Nov. 9, veterans can get a free entree from the $9.99 menu.

■ Olive Garden will offer a free entrée to veterans on Nov. 11. Offer good for veterans and active duty military; proof of service required.

■ Outback Steakhouse is honoring America's military veterans with a free Bloomin' Onion and a non-alcoholic beverage on Nov. 11. This offer is available to military personnel and veterans with ID. Veterans will also receive 15 percent off a purchase from Nov. 12-Dec 31.

■ At Red Lobster, from Nov. 9-12, veterans can receive a free appetizer or dessert with military ID or proof of service. Vets may choose from a select list of appetizers and desserts.

■ Red Robin will have free Red's Tavern Double and Bottomless Steak Fries for all Red Robin guests with a military ID or proof of service on Nov. 11.

■ At Texas Roadhouse, all members of the armed forces can choose from one of 10 free meals, plus sides and a soft drink, coffee, or tea on Nov. 11. ID Required. Dine-in only.

■ T.G.I. Friday's will have free lunch for all current military members and veterans from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 11.
