Churches asked to help fight the flu

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is reaching out to churches and faith communities about seasonal and H1N1 flu.

It is asking faith-based organizations to evaluate their usual activities and services to identify those that might increase the virus' spread. Activities might include hand-holding and hand-shaking.

The health department also is asking groups to teach members about staying healthy with good hygiene and hand-washing, cough etiquette and when to stay home or cancel events.

To help, the health department is offering to give flu-education presentations and other materials to faith-based groups. Call (859) 288-2350.
