Kentucky-bred racehorses earned more than $430 million at tracks in the United States and Canada in 2007. Kentucky-breds made up 26.5 percent of starts by Thoroughbreds in those races, nearly twice as many starters as those from any other state, and they earned 35.3 percent of the purse money, according to a report by the Industry Financial Matters Subcommittee to the Governor's Task Force on the Future of Horse Racing.
