Business awards

Deborah Drury, ASID, KYCID and owner of Deborah Drury Interior Design, has been awarded first place in two American Society of Interior Designers design competition categories. She received The Mary Louise Schum Award for commercial retail design for Bluegrass Bride and The Steven Ely Award for Asian/contemporary design of the North Gallery in the Smith residence, both in Lexington. Drury is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and the professional liaison to the UK interior design department.

Gary C. Johnson of Pikeville has received the Peter Perlman Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award. The award is given annually by the Kentucky Justice Association to a trial lawyer who demonstrates exceptional talent as a trial practitioner, fights for the rights of consumers, shares his or her legal talents with young lawyers and other members of the bar and gives back to the legal profession by working with others to protect America's constitutional right to trial by jury. Johnson has law offices in Pikeville and Lexington where he practices with his wife, Anita Johnson.

The Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development has given two organizations the Kentucky Award for Performance Excellence. Pikeville Medical Center received the Achievement Award for exemplifying a high level of performance excellence. Hematology & Oncology Center-Dr. N. Mullai of Somerset received the Commitment Award for demonstrating serious commitment to and implementation of performance improvement principles.

Republic Bank announced the following companies winners of its We CARE Awards for 2008: Messer Construction Co. (construction, architecture and engineering category); Walden's Photography (local retailer company); Trane (manufacturing and publishing company); Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald (professional services category); Frankfort Regional Medical Center (health care category); Kentucky American Water (public works, services and education category); and Ashland Inc. (corporate caring category). Companies were judged on how they encourage employees to become involved in volunteer activities either during or after work hours.

The LexisNexis Workers' Compensation Law Center powered by Larson's recently named the Roland Niemi Law Group's blog Ouch! as a 2008 honoree for the LexisNexis Top 25 Blogs for Workers' Compensation. The Roland Niemi Law Group is at 838 East High Street, No. 256.

Wayne Steele, program coordinator for the Kentucky Motorcycle Program, housed in Eastern Kentucky University's Traffic Safety Institute, has received the Award of Excellence for state coordinators from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. Award-winning accomplishments by Steele include developing curriculum and teaching methods that are being used internationally in three MSF rider education courses, in addition to the training efforts he has made in six state programs as well as the MSF RiderCoach development program.
