Shelby Energy to pay $15,000 fine

Shelby Energy Cooperative will pay a $15,000 fine to settle charges that one of its contractors violated safety rules repeatedly.

The state Public Service Commission accepted the settlement Monday and noted that the contractor no longer works for the co-op.

The safety violations contributed to a death in November when one of the contractor's employees fell from an aerial bucket truck.

The PSC also said it will conduct a management audit of the operations of Shelby Energy, based in Shelbyville.
