Farm cuts stud fee for top stallion

In another sign of the continuing downtown in the economic market, WinStar Farm on Tuesday announced that top stallion Distorted Humor will be standing for 25 percent less next year.

The stud fee for Distorted Humor, the sire of Kentucky Derby winner Funny Cide, will be $225,000 in 2009, down $75,000.

At $300,000, Distorted Humor had been tied with A.P. Indy and Storm Cat, who retired in May. Lane's End Farm, where A.P. Indy stands, has not released his 2009 stud fee.

WinStar Farm president Doug Cauthen said Tuesday the decision intended to be cost conscious. "We want our customers to be as profitable as possible," Cauthen said.
