Power co-op seeks 7.8% rate increase

East Kentucky Power Cooperative filed a request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission on Friday to raise the wholesale power rates it charges to 16 member cooperatives.

The requested increase is 7.77 percent, which would add $6 to the average monthly residential bill by next summer.

East Kentucky Power and its members provide electricity to 500,000 homes, farms and businesses in 87 Kentucky counties.
