Murakami Manufacturing USA, an auto supplier employing more than 200 in Taylor County, laid off 28 workers last week.
The Campbellsville plant produces exterior mirrors for Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota.

The affected employees already have left the plant after being told Thursday. They were not offered severance.
“I think the common misconception is that people are just not buying American cars,” said human resources manager Sam Polk. “People are just not buying cars.”
That slowdown in the industry led to the restructuring, he said. He said it wasn't due solely to recent decisions by automakers, including Toyota, to idle their assembly lines extra days around the holidays.
That idling “doesn't force layoffs ... but it does wreak havoc from a standpoint of extra downtime,” Polk said. “Our No. 1 goal is to keep everyone at work. If I've got any type of environmental training, any type of safety training, quality, whatever it may be, now is the time for us to do that.”
