Sportsman's Warehouse closing 23 stores

Utah-based retailer Sportsman's Warehouse is closing 23 stores nationwide as it tries to reduce debt.

It's Lexington store is not among those affected. The Hamburg shopping center location is the only one in Kentucky.

Chief executive and chairman Stu Utgaard says there will be about 2,000 job cuts companywide.

In addition to closing stores, Sportsman's plans to sell 15 outlets to UFA Co-operative Ltd. of Calgary, Alberta.

Utgaard says the store closures and sales should help Sportsman's cut its bank debt from $270 million to $120 million.
