ACS to hire 215 more employees but will cut 150

Affiliated Computer Services Inc., one of Kentucky's largest private employers, plans to hire 215 employees "as soon as possible," but the hirings come as the company is also eliminating 150 positions.

The new positions are customer care agents, data entry, clerical and managers, the company said. The company is hiring 180 for its operations in Lexington and 35 in London, according to a news release.

But Lexington will lose 150 jobs at the end of May as one line of work at a call center ends.

The company could likely place many of the laid-off employees in other vacant jobs as its turnover rate is typically 30 to 40 people per account monthly. The jobs often have variable schedules and come with the stresses of dealing with unhappy customers.

The Dallas-based Fortune 500 company provides information technology and outsourcing services to private businesses and government agencies.

Online applications for the new positions are available at Training classes are scheduled for April.

Walk-in applications will be accepted at 101 Yorkshire Boulevard in Lexington and 1084 South Laurel Road in London. Walk-ins are welcome during normal business hours in Lexington, and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays in London.

Walk-in applicants won't necessarily be interviewed that day.

ACS employs about 4,000 in Kentucky, including 2,000 in Lexington and 680 in London. The company is the sixth-largest private employer in Kentucky and recently made 100 hires in Louisville. Last year, it expanded in Lexington, investing $2 million in facility upgrades and hiring 100 more employees.

Kentucky is the second-largest base of ACS employees worldwide, the company said. The only larger contingent is in Texas, where the company is headquartered.
