Gabe Dadi and Reggie Smith of NDS Construction have passed the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design examination for Accredited Professionals (LEED AP).

Lyman Davidson Dooley Architects has announced that principal Thomas Dooley is now a LEED Accredited Professional. This accomplishment distinguishes him as a professional who has acquired and demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles in sustainable design and construction. LDD has eight other LEED APs on staff.

Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance has retained an issuer credit rating of A- for its balanced sheet strength, operating performance and business profile from A.M. Best Co. The announcement marks KEMI's ninth consecutive year receiving an excellent rating from A.M. Best, the leading provider of financial ratings for the insurance industry worldwide.

Messer Construction has been named one of the nation's top companies in construction safety by the Associated General Contractors of America. Messer was awarded first place in the National AGC's 2009 Construction Safety Excellence Awards based on the creation, implementation and results of the Safety4Site commitment. Safety4Site is designed to reach from the job site to the board room to meet and exceed safety expectations and standards on all Messer projects.

Hampton Scurlock, president of Retirement Tax Advisory Group, has been selected as one of America's top financial planners for 2009 by the Consumer's Research Council of America. This recognition is given to financial planners based on experience, training, professional associations and certifications. Scurlock also received this recognition in 2008.

Geoff White, a senior associate in both the real estate and construction service groups at Frost Brown Todd, has been accredited a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Associate (LEED GA) in accordance with the U.S. Green Building Council. White is the first LEED GA in Kentucky.

David Zurick, foundation professor of geography at Eastern Kentucky University, has received a lifetime achievement award from the Mountain Geography Specialty Group of the Association of American Geography. Zurick received the 2009 Chomolungma/Everest/Sagarmatha Career Award, which is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to mountain geography throughout their careers. Zurick, who has extensive field experience as a researcher in Nepal, Yunnan and Tibet (China), Zanzkar and Ladakh (India), is co-author of the Illustrated Atlas of the Himalaya, for which he won the National Outdoor Book Award. His research and exploration in the Himalaya has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the American Geographical Society, the Smithsonian Institution and the United Nations Year of the Mountain Project. Zurick has completed 17 major research expeditions into the Himalaya and has walked more than 3,000 miles through the mountains. In 2007, he was named an EKU Foundation Professor, the university's highest honor for teaching excellence.
