A cellular phone retail franchise operation announced Thursday that it plans to open eight locations in Lexington during the next two years and use its Central Kentucky base to expand throughout Kentucky with an additional 25 stores.
Wireless Zone, which sells Verizon Wireless products, opened 60 stores nationally in 2008 and is on pace to open 100 this year.
The company has more than 300 locations nationwide, primarily on the East Coast.
Formerly known as The Car Phone Store, the company says it's the largest independent Verizon Wireless franchise.
