TECO Coal has laid off 58 workers at two of its Premier Elkhorn Coal Co. mines in Pike County.
Workers are being paid through June 19 but will receive no severance after that, company spokesman Rick Morera said.
Morera said the cuts came because of lower demand for coal.
The mines will have about 36 employees after the layoffs.
