Ky, food prices up 5.6%

Kentucky food prices dropped 5.6 percent in 2009, according to the Kentucky Farm Bureau's quarterly survey of 40 popular grocery items.

The December survey showed that an average total cost of $105.28, compared to $111.63 at the beginning of last year. Items showing increases in the last quarter included poultry, eggs, milk, sausage, tomatoes, corn and bread.

Prices fell on sirloin steak, pork chops, ham, butter, ice cream, potatoes and apples.
