UK receives grant to further sustainable manufacturing

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has awarded the University of Kentucky's Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing a three-year, $1.5 million grant. Its aim is to help develop a common standard to measure and evaluate the sustainability of manufacturing processes and products, the university said in a news release.

I.S. Jawahir, director of the Institute for Sustainable Manufacturing, said in a statement that such a development would help companies reduce costs, production time, material use, waste and energy consumption.
